Frigiliana is the most stunning of the white villages of Andalucia. It is a village that breathes history, from the bones of its cave dwellers, through the centuries of Phoenician and Moorish rule to the Reconquista by the Catholics, and on to the Spanish Civil War, which continued to be fought in the mountains around the village until the 1950s. Today it is a ‘village of three cultures’ in which religious tolerance is encouraged and the scars of the Civil War are slowly healing.
